He has been a partner at Romero Arteta Ponce since receiving his law degree (LL.B) from Central University of Ecuador and his admittance to the Ecuadorian bar in 1986.

Diego Romero has completed several post-graduate programs in the United States.

He received an LL.M. in International Commercial Law from American University’s Washington College of Law in 1998. Washington, D.C.

He has also completed an International Business Management program at Georgetown University’s School of Business (Washington, D.C.) in 1998.
Diego Romero worked as an intern attorney at Thelan, Reid & Priest in their Washington D.C. office and served as intern on the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights at the Organization of American States (OAS).

In 1991 he participated in the Special Instruction for Lawyers Seminar at Harvard University Law School. He returned to Harvard in 1992 for the Negotiation Workshop with Roger Fisher.

Since 1993 Diego Romero has served in many capacities at the Quito Chamber of Commerce, including: Director (1993-95 & 1996-98), President of the Arbitration Commission (1996-1997), Delegate to the Executive Board of Directors (1993-95), and as an Arbitrator (1993- to date). He was Director of the Ecuadorian-Venezuelan Chamber of Commerce from 1994-96.

Dr. Romero served as a Director on the MERITAS LAW FIRMS WORLDWIDE Board of Directors (2000-2003). He is a panel member of the International Arbitration Forum headquartered in Minneapolis. He is actually the President of the Board of Directors of the Arbitration Mediation Center of the Ecuadorean American Chamber of Commerce of Ecuador since 2000 and is currently a designated arbitrator and mediator at this well-regarded center. He is also arbitrator at the American Arbitration Association ICDR.

With extensive experience in the areas of aviation accidents, alternative dispute resolution, commercial law, conflicts of law, corporations, international business transactions (mergers and acquisitions) finance, franchising, antitrust law.

Dr. Romero has written many scholarly works on the subjects including: Licensing, Franchising and Trademark Issues in Latin America (presented at the Fall 1998 meeting of the New York Bar Association), Legal Mechanisms for Rehabilitation of Enterprises in Ecuador (1986) and Mediation and Arbitration in Ecuador (2000).

Dr. Romero is a member of the Quito Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the American Arbitration Association (AAA), the Inter-American Bar Association and the International Bar Association, Inter-American Lawyers Federation (FIA), Young President Organization YPO.

Diego Romero was a law professor at Central University of Ecuador’s Economics and Doctrine Department (1994-1996). Proffesor at Quito San Francisco University-2007 and Andina University in Practical of Arbitration-2012.
